n8n job search
n8n job search is a private automation tool that Stanley Chan runs for his own job search, on n8n hosted on his own server. It connects only to his own Google account. It is not offered to the public, and no other person's Google account is connected to it.
Google data the tool accesses
The tool asks Google for these Gmail permissions:
- Read, compose and send email, to read job alert emails and replies from recruiters;
- Manage drafts, to create follow-up drafts;
- See and edit email labels, to mark alerts it has already processed.
It does not send email by itself. Every outgoing message is left as a draft that Stanley reviews and sends by hand.
How the data is used
- From job alert emails, it extracts the job title, link, location and pay, and saves them to Stanley's private job list. Tracking parameters and one-time login tokens are removed from links before saving.
- For emails that look job-related (for example, ones mentioning a role, interview or CV), it may send the email text to the Anthropic API to sort them into categories such as interview invitation or rejection. Other emails are not sent. Anthropic does not use data sent through its API to train its models by default.
- It sends short summaries, such as job titles, scores and reminders, to Stanley's own Telegram account.
- It creates email drafts from fixed templates, for example follow-ups to recruiters Stanley has already been in contact with.
Storage and sharing
Extracted job details are stored on Stanley's own server and in his private GitHub repositories. Google user data is not sold, not used for advertising, and not shared with anyone except the services named above, which are used only to provide these features.
The use and transfer of information received from Google APIs follows the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
Retention and deletion
Emails stay in Gmail, where the account owner controls them. Extracted job details are kept until Stanley deletes them. Access can be revoked at any time from Google Account permissions. After that, the tool can no longer read the account.
